Pangallos and Rupp receive Distinguished Service Award

RAVENNA, Ohio, May 7, 2010 - Kathy and David Pangallo and Kenneth Rupp, MD, received the 18th annual Robinson Memorial Hospital Foundation's Distinguished Service Awards at the Robinson Society and Heritage Society Distinguished Giving Program on May 6. The Robinson Memorial Hospital Foundation raises financial support for a number of patient care areas and community programs and services. The Pangallos and Dr. Rupp received the awards for their outstanding commitment to the community and to Robinson Memorial Hospital.
Kathy and David Pangallo, of Kent, have been long-time supporters of the hospital, the Robinson Memorial Hospital Foundation and The Auxiliary of Robinson Memorial Hospital. The Auxiliary of Robinson Memorial Hospital plays a key role in offering funding support for special hospital projects.
Kathy served on the Robinson Memorial Hospital Foundation Board of Directors from 2002 to 2007, during which time she served as the Auxiliary liaison to the foundation board. She joined the Auxiliary in 1998 and served for many years as the chair of the Auxiliary's Celebration of Lights, the organization's largest fundraiser. She has also served on many Auxiliary committees, including the Spring Style Show committee. She has also served as co-treasurer of the Auxiliary and as a cashier in the hospital's hospitality shop.
Kathy and David Pangallo have also served on the Robinson Memorial Hospital Jewel of Portage County Gala committee since the inception of the Gala in 2006.
In 2004, Kathy and Dave established, in David's mother's honor, the Katherine Pangallo Nursing Scholarship for employees of Robinson Memorial Hospital pursuing a nursing degree. As of 2009, nearly 30 Katherine Pangallo Nursing Scholarships have been awarded to deserving employees.
In 2007, a new healing garden at Robinson Memorial Hospital was established and dedicated the Gertrude M. Petsche Healing Garden in memory of Kathy's mother.
Dr. Rupp, of Streetsboro, was one of the first physicians in Streetsboro and practiced medicine there for 40 years, from 1958 until 1999.
Dr. Rupp worked with the Portage County Health Department for 43 years, serving as health commissioner for 28 years and serving 14 years on the Board of Health.
Dr. Rupp was a volunteer fireman in Streetsboro for 21 years, was treasurer of the Streetsboro School Levy Committee for 20 years, and was a member of the Streetsboro Board of Education. He was also a team physician for the Streetsboro School District.
Dr. Rupp was an active member of the Medical Staff at Robinson Memorial Hospital from 1958 until 1998 and maintains honorary privileges. He chaired the hospital's Infection Control Committee and Credentials Committee, and served as president of the hospital's Medical Staff. He also served as president of the Portage County Medical Society.
Each year, the Foundation presents the Distinguished Service Award to individuals who have given of themselves and of their time, talent and treasures in support of Robinson Memorial Hospital. This includes service to the hospital, the Auxiliary, the foundation, Robinson Health Affiliates, Inc., or the Medical Staff. The contribution must be extraordinary in nature and service. The following criteria are utilized to determine the award winner:
- Supports the goals of Robinson Memorial Hospital
- Enhances the image of Robinson Memorial Hospital in the minds of residents of Portage County and the local community
- Performs noteworthy activities on behalf of Robinson Memorial Hospital
- Displays exceptional character on behalf of Robinson Memorial HospitalEnhances the image and assets of Robinson Memorial Hospital by representing it in a volunteer, fundraising or employment capacity
