RAVENNA, Ohio, May 14, 2010 - Paper charts will soon be a thing of the past at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, which announced today that it is investing $39 million in the installation of an electronic medical record system. The system is expected to be complete in three to five years and will allow patients to have a single, secure electronic health record across all hospital services and locations throughout Portage County.
"The integrated electronic medical record will support our goal of continually improving the quality and safety of care provided to the community," said Stephen Colecchi, FACHE, President and Chief Executive Officer. "The system will afford increased efficiency to our doctors, nurses and other clinicians and thus improve clinical outcomes and turnaround time for patient tests and procedures."
Along with a computerized physician order entry system, the electronic medical record will integrate the hospital's pharmacy, emergency care, ambulatory care and clinical documentation. Together, these systems will allow caregivers a fully integrated electronic workflow. The system will also finish the implementation of bar-coded medication administration throughout the hospital. Certain areas of the hospital, including the laboratory, radiology and some offsite locations, are already using electronic records.
"We are very excited to bring this technology to our patients and staff," said Stephen Francis, MD, vice president, Medical Affairs. "It will revolutionize how the hospital operates and greatly enhance the delivery of medicine in Portage County."
As a result of the technology, Robinson Memorial Hospital will be positioned to meet the expected "meaningful use" requirements of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) of 2009. The hospital will begin work on the project immediately.
After a national search, Robinson Memorial Hospital selected Eclipsys Corporation of Atlanta to implement the technology. The electronic medical record will be built on the platform Helios by EclipsysTM, a solution that will allow the hospital continued technological growth and innovation in the future.
