Jewel of Portage County Gala nets $114,000 for Healing Arts Program

Approximately 300 people from Portage County and Northeast Ohio enjoyed the Robinson Memorial Hospital Jewel of Portage County Gala held October 6 at the Bertram Inn and Conference Center in Aurora. The gala raised more than $114,000 in support of The Healing Arts Program at Robinson Memorial Hospital.

Since the inception of The Jewel of Portage County Gala in 2006, the event has netted more than $100,000 annually with net proceeds of more than $840,000 for a variety of patient programs and services at Robinson Memorial Hospital.

Diamond Dazzler sponsors were: Allen Aircraft Products, Inc.; Altercare Centers for Rehabilitation & Nursing Care; Aurora Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation; The Burbick Foundation; The Ferner Family; Inpatient Medical Services, Inc.; Neurology & Neuroscience Associates, Inc. and Dr. Thomas and Holly Strachan; Physicians Emergency Services, Inc.; Ravenna Radiology, LLC; and Sydmor’s Jewelry Company, Inc.

Sapphire Sensation sponsors were: Hitachi Medical Systems America, Inc.; J.W. Didado Electric, Inc.; Dr. and Mrs. Frederick Marquinez; Portage Pathology Associates, Inc.; Portage Physical Therapists, Inc.; SummaCare; Summa Western Reserve Hospital; Bill & Eddye White – Bill White’s Twin Star Lanes; and Charles and Cathy Zumkehr.

Gala guests had the opportunity to bid on 48 silent auction items, including vacation getaways, specialty baskets and services offered by individuals and businesses. The gala also featured a live auction with paintings by speed painter Tim Decker; who performed at the Gala; a Swing Video and Short Game Clinic, donated by Herb Page and the Kent State University Golf Training & Learning Center; a hot air balloon ride, donated by Chuck and Betsy Mangin; and a Reunion Resort Orlando experience, donated by Triangle Pharmacy.

A reverse raffle for a 10-course gourmet meal by Dr. Roger Tsai was won by Dr. Glenn and Mrs. Ruth Saltzman.

A $5,000 shopping spree by Symdor’s Jewelry Company of Ravenna, was won by Dr. and Mrs. Frederick Marquinez.

Gala committee co-chairs were: Dr. Larry and Judge Barb Oswick and Debbie and Dave Petrone. Gala committee members were: Dr. Tony Badalamenti; Jim and Sallie Bear; Bob and Jan Egdell; Greg and Dena Ferner; Chuck and Betsy Mangin; Dr. Thomas and Holly Strachan; and Tim and Mary Toppen.

Proceeds from the Robinson Memorial Hospital Jewel of Portage County 2012 Gala will support the Healing Arts Program at Robinson Memorial Hospital.

“Robinson Memorial Hospital recognizes that healing arts (music, art, spiritual support, storytelling, dog visits, healing gardens, and reading programs) serve patients, family members, visitors and caregivers as powerful, therapeutic aids and bring beauty into the stress-filled world of healthcare and hospitals,” said Deborah Solan, executive director of the Foundation. “Through the funds raised at the Gala, we look forward to enhancing the Healing Arts Program at Robinson Memorial Hospital.”
