RMH Awards Seven Scholarships

Ravenna, Ohio, June 14, 2011 - The Robinson Memorial Hospital Foundation is pleased to announce the award of seven scholarships to children of Robinson Memorial Hospital employees. Five $1,000 scholarships from the Dr. Peter Chen Medical Staff Scholarship Fund, one $1,000 scholarship from the Delbert and Marcella Shilling Scholarship Fund and one $1,000 scholarship from the Dr. Steve and Patti Dean Scholarship Fund have been awarded.

The Robinson Memorial Hospital Foundation is grateful for the service of the Ravenna Rotary Scholarship committee, which selects scholarship recipients annually.

Recipients of the Dr. Peter Chen Medical Staff Scholarships are:Taylor Chiller, Heather Davidson, Jascelynn Romeo, James O'Brien, and Caitlin Wert.

Taylor Chiller is a 2011 graduate of Crestwood High School and was accepted into the BS/MD program at NEOMED. She is beginning her pre-med studies at Kent State University. Taylor is the daughter of Tricia Chiller, Secretary in the Robinson Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Heather Davidson is a 2011 graduate of Streetsboro High School and plans to study wildlife conservation and biology at Ohio University. She is the daughter of Amy Davidson, RN, a Nurse in the Birth Center at Robinson Memorial Hospital.       

James O'Brien is a 2011 graduate of Hudson High School and plans to study biology at The Ohio State University. He is the son of Barbara O'Brien, Director of Pharmacy at Robinson Memorial Hospital.

Jascelynn Romeo is a 2011 graduate of Struthers High School and plans to study physical therapy at Walsh University. She is the daughter of Jim Romeo, Database Administrator at Robinson Memorial Hospital.

Caitlin Wert is a 2008 graduate of Ravenna High School and is studying at Kent State University to be an intervention specialist.

The Peter F. Chen, M.D. Medical Staff Scholarship Fund was established in 1997 by Dr. Chen to provide scholarships to legal dependents of employees of Robinson Memorial Hospital and Robinson Health Affiliates, Inc., and to recognize the contribution employees make in caring for patients. Nearly 60 members of the Robinson Memorial Hospital Medical Staff have donated to the fund and more than 50 scholarships have been awarded.

Receiving the Delbert and Marcella Shilling Scholarship for 2011 is Heather Ristau, a 2011 graduate of Crestwood High who plans to study nursing at Hiram College. Heather is the daughter of Kristin Ristau, RN, a Nurse in the Birth Center at Robinson Memorial Hospital.

The Delbert and Marcella Shilling Scholarship was established by the Shilling family in loving memory of Delbert and Marcella Shilling.

Receiving the Dr. Steve and Patti Dean Scholarship is Bryan Shure, son of Larry Shure, a Health Information Management Clerk at Robinson Memorial Hospital. Bryan graduated from Poland Seminary and is studying nursing at Kent State University.

The Dr. Steve and Patti Dean Scholarship Fund was established in 2008 to provide a unique opportunity for legal dependents of employees of Robinson Memorial Hospital and Robinson Health Affiliates, Inc., who are continuing their education at Kent State University.
